Origin operations in Somaliland

For a company that needs things done at origin and has nobody there. We do the work in Somaliland to your brief and report to you in writing. Here we act for you: we are your agent, and the goods are yours.

Service
Origin operations
Our role
Your agent at origin
You bring
Your own specification, protocol or suppliers, and what you need to know from origin.
You get
The work done to your instructions, and a written report with photographs.
Commitment
A scope agreed for each engagement.
How we are paid
A fee agreed with the scope. Goods bought on your account are invoiced separately.

When it fits

Buying a lot from us is one relationship. This is a different one. You need work done in Somaliland, to your own instructions, from our base in Hargeisa. We do it for a fee, and anything bought is bought on your account.

  • You want a material that is not on our list, bought to a specification of your own.
  • Your quality team needs samples drawn, labelled and sent by its own protocol.
  • You want a load counted and photographed before it leaves, or documents prepared to your instructions.
  • You want written reports from origin for a supplier file.

What an engagement can cover

These are the jobs we do for our own lots, done to your brief instead. An engagement uses one of them or several, and the scope names which.

Supplier coordination
Finding, meeting and following up harvesters, graders and traders for the material you name.
Buying
Purchasing to your specification, with a record of every purchase: who, where, when and what was paid.
Aggregation
Bringing small parcels together into lots, each bag numbered and listed.
Sorting and quality checks
Cleaning, sorting and grading to your written protocol, with samples drawn and sent the way you ask.
Local transport
Moving goods within Somaliland and to the port of Berbera.
Documents
Certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate, invoice, packing list and lot list, made out to your instructions.
Reporting
Written reports and photographs at the points you choose: after buying, after sorting, at loading.
Shipment preparation
Packing, marking and delivery to your forwarder or to the vessel.

What we can take on

The scope is agreed with you first, and we say plainly which parts of a brief we can take on. We are a new company: make a first engagement small enough to judge us by.

Where the work is done

Our origin base is Hargeisa. We buy from harvesters and graders in Sanaag, Sahil and Togdheer, and goods leave through the port of Berbera.

Chart of Somaliland and the Gulf of Aden, showing the regions of Sahil, Togdheer and SanaagHargeisa, the Orivex Exports origin base, lies about 160 km by road from the port of Berbera on the Gulf of Aden. Sahil is the region around Berbera, Togdheer the region around Burao, and Sanaag the region around Erigavo, further east. Sea lanes run from Berbera west towards the Red Sea and east along the Gulf of Aden.Gulf of AdenGulf of AdenSomalilandEthiopiaYemenSomaliaSahilTogdheerSanaagabout 160 km by roadto Red Sea hubsto Salalah and the GulfBerberaBerberaHargeisaOrigin baseBuraoErigavoDjiboutiAdenBosaso43°E44°E45°E46°E47°E48°E49°E9°N10°N11°N12°N100 km

How it is scoped

  1. You send a brief

What you need done, to what standard, by when, and what you want reported.

  2. We reply with a scope

What we will do, what we will not, what you will receive, and the fee. The fee depends on the work, so it is quoted with the scope.

  3. The work is done

Abdirahman Hussein in Hargeisa answers for the work itself, and Hamza Abdi in Canada for everything else.

  4. You get the report

In writing, with photographs and the records behind it.

What a report contains

Scope
The engagement and the task the report belongs to
Date and place
When and where the work was done
Who did the work
The person, by name
What was done or checked
Against your brief, line by line
Findings
What was seen, counted or weighed, and what was not checked
Attached
Photographs and records

Confidentiality and conflicts

Confidentiality
Tell us what confidentiality terms you need before you send supplier names or prices. They are agreed in writing first.
Conflicts
We buy and sell the same materials ourselves. Where a brief conflicts with our own buying, we say so and decline that part.

What it is not

  • An accredited inspection. We are a trading company that works at origin, and not an inspection body. If you appoint an inspection agency, we work alongside it.
  • A certification. A report from us says what was seen and done. It does not certify a supplier.
  • Importing. Customs clearance in your country stays with you and your broker.

Questions

Can you work with suppliers we already use?

Tell us who they are and what you need checked or coordinated. Where that conflicts with our own buying, we say so and decline that part.

Can you work to a third-party standard?

We can follow a written protocol you give us. That is different from being certified to a standard, and we hold no such certificate.

How is this paid for?

By a fee agreed with the scope before work starts. Goods bought on your account are invoiced separately.

Tell us what you need done at origin.
